As your business grows and changes, your website will need to be able to adapt and change with it. So when choosing a platform for your website keep these things in mind.
Online Sales and Online Payments
Will your business need to be able to take payments over your website? This could come in the form of ecommerce, online bill pay, reservations, deposits, and many more things. Not all platforms integrate with all payment processors, or give you options to take payments at all.
Online Marketing Funnels and Campaigns
For a successful marketing campaign, you will need a series of pages optimized for the campaign. You will also need to be able to set up custom funnels or paths through landing pages, forms, and confirmation pages. All of these pages need to be able to allow you to place tracking codes on them.
Storage Limitations
Websites take up space on a server. All platforms will limit the amount of space your site takes up, some have lower thresholds than others. If you are going to need to house a lot of PDFs or images on your website make sure the levels of hosting are there to accommodate your site. And make sure you keep an eye on the storage and never allow it to go over 75%. This will put your site at risk of crashing and having down time.
”Free” Email with hosting
You have probably seen this line in a call to action. This email account will take up space on your website server, and it is hard to migrate if you ever need to change web hosts. Email is best kept with a 3rd party like Google Workspace or Microsoft 365. This way it doesn’t crowd your website storage and it doesn’t matter who your website host is, your email is separate.
If you are a small business and can’t afford an email service, you are better off just setting up a free Google email while your business grows, rather than using the free web server email.
Redesign and Refresh
Every 2-5 years a website should be gone through and either refreshed or redesigned all together. Make sure the platform you choose is easy to work in so this process is as painless as possible.
