Brave New World: New Web Browser Promises to Increase Speed

Ads are inevitable. Every business out there is competing to get their message out to consumers before their competition, and they will go to any lengths to do so. But we as consumers aren’t dumb. We don’t want businesses bombarding us with ads in hopes that we’ll give them money. Knowing this, advertisers sweetened the pot. They started paying for the things we wanted, like great television and radio, and we bought into this idea. We get our entertainment. They get to run their ads and make money off the consumers that eventually buy in. But we are crafty consumers. We bought TiVo’s, recorded our television, and skipped over the ads. Of course, advertisers didn’t like that, and focused their ads on the ever growing internet. We didn’t like that either, but we were still getting great content, so we pressed on. But then, AdBlocker came out, and changed the whole game. We could browse freely, and not waste time sifting through a mess of ads. But certain websites have smartened up, and now won’t let you access their content unless you turn AdBlock off!

Now, in the latest war between consumers and advertisers, a new secret weapon has promised to increase internet speed by up to 60% by blocking ads and third-party trackers. The project is headed by Brendan Eich, founder of Mozilla and creator of JavaScript, and he writes: “”Brave browsers block everything: initial signaling/analytics scripts that start the programmatic advertising ‘dirty pipe,’ impression-tracking pixels, and ad-click confirmation signals.” But this won’t be the end of ads as a whole. Users will get the opportunity to replace ads they don’t want with clean ads from companies that users support.
